Joanne Chambers, LCSW
"I believe therapy involves helping people build on their strengths in order to move towards a sense of wholeness, a balance of body, mind, and spirit."
Joanne Chambers left her family home in suburban Pittsburgh to pursue her bachelor's degree in psychology at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. She then served as a counselor at a United Way agency in Columbus, OH, before eventually returning to the Pittsburgh area.
She accepted employment with the Department of Public Welfare, where she met Michael, one of her peers. Their friendship blossomed into a committed relationship and the two married a few weeks before enrolling in graduate school at West Virginia University. Both earned Masters of Social Work degrees before relocating to central Pennsylvania in the early 1970's.
Joanne has focused her career on clinical mental health services for over 25 years, serving as a therapist, supervisor and manager in outpatient, partial hospital, and inpatient settings.
In October of 1999, Joanne joined Franco Psychological Associates, where she offers individual, couples, and family therapy. She has a special interest in women's issues.
Joanne lives near Carlisle, where she and Mike share their home with an aging dog and two eccentric cats. She has had a lifelong interest in the universal connection between people and animals and has been active in various organizations that help animals. Joanne and Mike also enjoy their relationship with their adult daughter, who lives in the area and who watches their home when they take trips on their BMW motorcycle.
