Jane Gilroy-Hunsecker, M.S.

Jane Gilroy-Hunsecker, MS, LPC

"I view life as a journey toward "following one's bliss" as Joseph Campbell suggested. Even the wrong roads have been necessary to get to where I am now. Helping people discover how they genuinely wish to live, through healing old wounds, increasing their ability to feel alive, and balancing their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual needs has been the path I have taken for myself personally and as a therapist for others."

A native of northeastern Pennsylvania, Jane grew up in a large family with six brothers and sisters. Her large extended Irish catholic family, played an important role in her upbringing and served as a positive model for the importance of family relationships.
Jane was the valedictorian of her high school graduating class at Saint John the Evangelist in Pittston, Pa.
She graduated from the College of Misericordia with a Bachelors of Arts degree in French and a minor in Spanish and Psychology. She then began working as a caseworker for the Luzerne-Wyoming County Mental Health Center.
In order to further her professional training, Jane relocated to Shippensburg in 1976 and attended the Counselor Education Program at the University. She received her Masters Degree in August of 1977.
In the years following her masters training, Jane has worked in a variety of professional settings including community mental health centers, crisis intervention programs, private psychotherapy practice, and consultation. Her professional work has focused on in depth psychotherapy with adult survivors of childhood trauma, as well as providing play therapy for young children suffering from neglect, abuse and abandoment. Other areas of interest include treatment for depression, anxiety, transitional life situations, and women’s issues including menopause and relationship issues.
Jane’s motivation and interest in personal and professional growth have led her to complete a number of intensive post graduate training programs which have included 9 years of Gestalt Therapy Training, Guided Imagery, and training in Play Therapy and Trauma Issues.
Jane has made her home in Cumberland County since her marriage to her husband Gary in 1978. Her three young adult daughters were all born and raised here, attended local schools and to date, two have gone on to attend college.  Jane’s special interest in singing has led her to perform in a number of local productions. She has adopted a number of pets from the humane society and currently has three dogs and four cats. Jane loves to read, garden, and travel.
